Well here we are at the start of another season for the Chiefs. And the Chiefs were very much the Chiefs in that game. They had the lead through most of the game. But they always find a way to make it stressful. I would say they can't keep this up but if there is anything I have learned about the Chiefs in the Mahomes era it is that this is just how they win games.
Offense
Some really good things happened. The redzone is still an issue. We had so many chances with the ball to put the game away and would have to settle for 3. That is something that we saw last year as well and in the preseason. We did not have Hollywood in this game hopefully he will be of help. We had a few drops there as well. Again something that we saw last year. These things have to be fixed.
How about that rookie WR! Scoring on your first NFL touch is not something that happens often. He followed that up with another deep pass TD. Something that the Chiefs are looking to add. I don't think the Chiefs could have asked for more out of a guy in his first NFL game. I guess you could say Xavier Worthy was worth that 1st round pick. I'll be here all week try the veal and don't forget to tip your waitress.
Rice also had a very nice game. He was big on that first drive that got the Chiefs going. I am really looking forward to seeing what year 2 brings for him. We just have to hope that his season doesn't end early due to suspension.
Patrick Mahomes Played well overall. He's the best player in the NFL and it's not even close. Sometimes that gets him into trouble. And we saw that on the INT. He at times tries to do to much and make something happen. And he has the ability to do so. Tonight it got him. But that's part of what makes him Patrick Mahomes so you just have to live with it. Mahomes is also now the all time passing leader for the Chiefs. The dude is just going to rewrite the Chiefs franchise record books. Enjoy it while we have it.
Defense
There is just something about this defense. There are moments that they make you think they are just lackluster. But then you look up at the scoreboard at the end of the game and you see against a pretty high power NFL offense they gave up 20 points. This is a lot to the credit of Spaggs. After the 1st drive he made adjustments and really contained the Ravens for a good while. They gave us every chance to really open the game up. And if things go to form they will just get better as the season goes.
Having said that can we just be honest for just a moment. They get lucky a lot. Jackson had a couple of chances to tie that game up he just missed the throws. And well we got lucky there at the end as well there is just no getting around that. Part of me wants to think that luck will just run out at some point. But then there's the part that says nobody just gets "lucky" all the time. There has to be something they are doing to earn that "luck"
You know football back when we hear the refs helping the Chiefs talk back. WE are that team now. And I am starting to learn to kind of enjoy it.
The season is underway. The Chiefs are already off to a better start than they were last year. And they now would have the tie breaker against the Ravens for playoff seeding. There's no way of telling if that will matter at the end of the year but it's nice to have this early. The Chiefs now have some extra rest before they have the Bengals coming into Arrowhead. And we all know how Andy Reid does on extra rest. GO CHIEFS
